Damien Sneed is a multi-genre pianist, vocalist, organist, composer, conductor, arranger, producer, and educator whose work spans jazz, classical, gospel, R&B, and spirituals. He has collaborated with artists including Aretha Franklin, Jessye Norman, Wynton Marsalis, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, and J’Nai Bridges, and has served as music director for leading gospel artists including The Clark Sisters, Donnie McClurkin, Hezekiah Walker, and Kim Burrell. A Dove Award and NAACP Image Award winner, Sneed is also the founder and artistic director of Chorale Le Chateau, a renowned ensemble known for bringing together classical, jazz, gospel, spirituals, and contemporary music. He has conducted and performed with major orchestras and ensembles around the world, and his work includes the world premiere of Wynton Marsalis’ Abyssinian Mass with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and Chorale Le Chateau, as well as original operas and works commissioned by organizations including Houston Grand Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Sneed continues to build a distinctive musical legacy rooted in the connection between African American musical traditions and the classical canon.
