Blood Brothers, a band of 4, finds its origin in the enduring connection formed between drummer, Nasheet Waits and saxophonist, Abraham Burton. A connection that was spawned in Greenwich Village, NYC in the 70’s and 80’s. A time when the neighborhood exuded a deep, musical/bohemian/liberal culture. Fertile soil for young adventurous brothers to navigate. Alongside drummer Eric McPherson, they formed a lifelong creative brotherhood shaped by their loving families and the master musicians and artisans that they came to be embraced by.

The music performed by the band directly reflects this era as experienced through adolescent eyes and aged through decades of performing worldwide. An ebullient mixture of influences that resonate from the Caribbean, through the Mississippi Delta all the way up the streets of NYC. There is an emphasis on original material composed by the band’s members is featured. A primary influence on the repertoire is housed in the family origins of the band. Abraham, of Belizean and Honduran roots. Nasheet, is born and raised in NYC. Both parents of the 2nd generation after, “The Great Migration”. Guitarist, Marvin Sewell, hails from Chicago. Worked with greats from Cassandra Wilson to Jack Dejohnette. A true Chicago bluesman with sensibilities informed by Ellington, Bach and Curtis Mayfield. Marvins’s parents are from Kentucky and Alabama. Bassist, Luques Curtis, is born and raised in Hartford, Conn. His parents are of Puerto Rican and African American descent. Luques was the last bassist for the inimitable Eddie Palmieri. The blood runs through the history as it does through the music.
